Yarn dyeing is the process of dyeing yarn before it is woven or knitted into fabric. The dye penetrates deep into the yarn, resulting in richer colors and a superior fabric. Yarn dyeing can also create interesting patterns and stripes.
Here are some methods of yarn dyeing:
Package dyeing
Untreated threads are wound around perforated cones and placed in a dye vessel. The dye solution is then pushed in and out of the cones.
Warp-beam dyeing
Similar to package dyeing, but on a larger scale. The yarn is wound onto a perforated warp beam or cylinder, which is then placed in the dye machine.
Skein dyeing
Wrapped skeins of yarn are looped over rods and immersed in a dye bath. The rods move in and out, loosening and tightening the skeins during dyeing. This method is best for soft yarns, like hand knitting yarns.
